A Year of Milestones: My Journey with the Professional Photographers of Canada PPOC

Updated: Feb 25

When I first started taking photos, I never imagined my work would one day be recognized on a national level. Photography, for me, has always been a matter of heart - a way to share how I see and feel the world. I don’t come from a background in the arts; I come from pure passion, curiosity, and the simple wish to spread a little joy through my images.

Over these last months, something incredible happened.

I earned my first Accreditations from the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) - a highly respected organization that represents and supports professional photographers across Canada. Accreditation through the PPOC is a mark of professional standard and excellence, evaluated by a panel of experienced photographers. It’s not just a certificate; it’s a validation of your vision, technical skill, and artistic voice.

Each Accreditation I have so far received - in Travel Illustration, Botanical, and Pictorial/Scenic Photography - brought a quiet, humbling sense of pride. Not because the path was easy, but precisely because it wasn’t. Every late night editing, every moment of self-doubt, every small decision to keep learning rather than giving up, led here.

If I’m honest, I still sometimes struggle with impostor syndrome - that persistent feeling of wondering if I truly belong among so many talented artists. But here’s what I’ve learned: those feelings don’t have the power to stop you, unless you let them. Every step forward, every risk taken, every image shared despite the fear, is a way of saying: "I choose growth over doubt."

Photography has taught me that growth is not about sudden leaps, but about quiet persistence fueled by love for the craft.

And then, the biggest honor yet - three of my images were selected to be part of the PPOC’s National Salon Exhibition this year.

To say it was a dream come true would still fall short. Being part of a showcase that gathers the very best of Canadian professional photography - where diverse visions and stories come together in one place - was an overwhelming, beautiful reminder that art has no single path. You don't need a certain title, a certain origin, or a certain formula to create something meaningful. You just need to love what you do enough to keep going.

This experience has given me more than accolades. It has given me courage. Courage to trust my own way of seeing. Courage to keep growing. Courage to continue sharing pieces of my heart with the world, one image at a time - even on the days when doubt tries to whisper otherwise.

I am endlessly grateful: to my family, my friends, my mentor, and the amazing PPOC community whose support and kindness made this year unforgettable. Thank you for believing in me, for inspiring me, and for reminding me that dreams - even the quiet, secret ones - are worth chasing.

This is just the beginning.

A close-up of a delicate white tulip partially wrapped by its green leaves, with soft raindrops clinging to the petals. The background is dark and blurred, making the flower stand out gently, symbolizing quiet growth, resilience, and new beginnings.
Behind every achievement, there are unseen moments of persistence, courage, and love. This year, I chose growth.
